Yamaha 01X mLAN Music Production Studio
Integrated Multi Audio I/O, MIDI I/O, digital Mixer and Controller System for Computer Music Production

What is the 01X ?
What do you get when you take a state-of-the-art digital mixer, add 24-bit/96kHz computer audio interface and multi port MIDI I/O using mLAN, throw in two powerful 32-bit multi-effects processors, give it full DAW control capabilities, and then shrink it down in both size and price to fit the space and budget requirements of today’s musicians?

You get a new breed of mixer/controller, one that seamlessly integrates into computer-based recording environments, giving you complete control over both hardware and software studio components.

Meet the 01X.
Simply put, the 01X is everything you need to produce music on your computer with your favourite sequencing software. It combines the functions of several key studio components, including digital mixing console, DAW control surface, digital audio/MIDI interface, and multi-effects processor —all in one compact, affordable and easy-to-use unit.

Similar products on the market claim to offer “complete solutions”, but none have the amount of features and level of integration that the 01X provides. Only the 01X offers all of these features and more.

Featuring the same world class mixing and DSP processing that have made Yamaha the premiere choice in many of the finest professional studios around the world, the Yamaha 01X offers power and flexibility never before seen in any computer audio product.

Why the 01X ?
Until now, you had only two choices when trying to put together a computer-based recording studio. One choice was to piece together various components from different manufacturers and hoped they worked well together. The other was to buy an “all-in-one” system that forced you to use a company’s proprietary software, whether it suited your needs or not. The concept behind the 01X is simple: Seamlessly combine the functions of digital mixer, DAW control surface for the worlds most popular software sequencers, MIDI and audio I/O interface - and give back users their freedom of choice!

Featuring the same world class mixing and DSP processing that have made Yamaha the premiere choice in many of the finest professional studios around the world, the Yamaha 01X offers power and flexibility never before seen in any computer audio product.

With low latency audio interfacing over mLAN for both Windows and Macintosh computers, full sequencer remote control for the industry's top applications, and a stunning software bundle, the Yamaha 01X really is the centre of your computer music universe.

The O1X is the first product to feature second generation mLAN connectivity, all audio and MIDI networking is reduced to a single FireWire cable.

The Yamaha 01X package also includes FREE a professional suite of commercially available VST/AU effects plug ins (over £400 worth).

The Yamaha 01X has extensive remote capabilities. Its comprehensive top panel (featuring 9 motorised faders) combined with mLAN's extremely low latency makes it the ideal hardware controller for many popular DAWs, sequencers and synthesisers.

With 8 built-in mic preamps (2 on XLR with +48V phantom power), dynamics and effects comparable to those in the DM1000 and 01V96, and 8 high quality 24-bit/96kHz AD converters, Yamaha 01X is a fantastic stand-alone digital mixer for small-scale live and studio applications. For larger events, Yamaha 01X is expandable to 24 inputs via mLAN

Yamaha 01X will also function independently as an AD converter, effects processor and multi-port MIDI interface. And combined with Yamaha's Studio Manager software, it is the perfect remote partner for the DM2000, 02R96, DM1000 and 01V96, allowing manipulation of console configurations on the move.

Features

Total Control
The Yamaha 01X offers remote control power never before seen in a multifunction product of this type. With a level of integrated DAW support normally found only in dedicated remote control products costing as much as Yamaha 01X itself, the Yamaha 01X can also be the ultimate human user interface between you and your software.

Functions which can be controlled directly from the Yamaha 01X include track arming, transport control, plug in editing, mixing, window selection and many more using existing and popular control protocols. This means you have support straight out of the box for Cubase SX, Nuendo, Sonar, Logic, Digital Performer and many more software products besides.

As well as being the perfect remote control partner for your sequencer or digital audio workstation software, Yamaha 01X will also control a wide range of parameters with many of your favourite software synthesisers and as the Yamaha 01X also works as a multi-port MIDI interface, your existing hardware MIDI devices can be connected directly to the Yamaha 01X, making it truly the heart of your working environment.

Total Mixing Power
Built on world-renowned 96kHz DSP technologies, found in Yamaha's flagship DM2000, 02R96 and 01V96 professional digital mixers, the Yamaha 01X has massive power under the hood, at an amazingly affordable price. The Yamaha 01X not only works as a professional digital mixing interface for your computer but also works as a total recall, stand-alone digital mixer, ideally suited for live performances. This added capability makes the Yamaha 01X the most cost effective total recall digital mixer Yamaha have ever developed.

With Yamaha's new high quality microphone pre-amps, 48V phantom power on balanced XLR and TRS, line inputs you can plug in guitars, microphones or indeed any musical instrument and know that the quality of your signal is maintained throughout.

Did we mention DSP?
Full dynamics processing, including compressors, gates and limiters as well as 4 band parametric equalisation on every one of the 28 digital mixing channels, and two world-class 32-bit effects processors means that the Yamaha 01X puts no strain on your host computer for mixing or audio processing. Fully motorised faders mean that your mix is recalled at the touch of a button, and is accurately tracked during the course of your song.

Total Expansion
Being based on mLAN, The Yamaha 01X can be expanded to add more channels with optional mLAN channel expansion units, meaning that the system can grow with your needs. Up to 16 extra analogue inputs can be added to Yamaha 01X over mLAN with the Yamaha 01X internal digital processors and mixing channels handling the routing/effects/EQ and dynamics. Future proofing has never been this easy.

Total Network
The Yamaha 01X is the first product to feature Yamaha's next generation mLAN technology. Offering high speed audio and MIDI networking between computers, synthesisers and other mLAN compatible products, the Yamaha 01X offers more than any previous computer music product has ever delivered.

As Yamaha's mLAN technology is based on the industry standard IEEE1394 (FireWire) buss, connecting up your Yamaha 01X is as simple as plugging in a single cable. Perfect for any environment, the Yamaha 01X is as happy connected to a laptop as to a desktop computer.

mLAN being a true network, and not just a point to point connection system, allows for up to 63 mLAN compatible devices to be linked together.

And with mLAN using a single cable to send multichannel audio and MIDI, you need never have to worry about opening up your computer, fiddling with messy IRQ's or wrestling with awkward set-up configurations. Yamaha 01X means you just literally plug in and play.

Total Software Support
Unlike other solutions on the market, there is no need to switch to one specific application just to get the full benefit of Yamaha 01X. With low latency 24-bit 96kHz audio driver support for Windows XP and Macintosh (OS9/OSX) computers as well as full MIDI capability, the Yamaha 01X slip's into your existing working environment with absolute ease.

Bundled with the Yamaha 01X is a professional suite of user interface control software and commercially available VST effects plug ins (over £400 worth Pitch Fix, Vocal Rack and Final Master) to enhance even further your experience of working with the most powerful computer audio product ever conceived. Whilst Yamaha 01X itself has one of the most intuitive user interfaces yet designed, using Yamaha 01X in conjunction with Yamaha's acclaimed Studio Manager, you can also instantly see and control every parameter directly from a computer screen. On top of this Yamaha 01X comes with a VST compatible Yamaha 01X channel module which mimics the hardware DSP and functions of the console, and lets you copy parameters from Studio Manager directly into your VST hosting application, offering a level of integration never before thought possible.

Also with Yamaha 01X are three world-class VST plug ins offering enhanced vocal processing, final mastering and studio quality, formant-accurate pitch correction.

APPLICATIONS
Studio recording and post-production - with the ability to take direct control over track-arming, transport control, plug-in editing, mixing, window selection, and more, the Yamaha 01X is ideal as a multifunction hardware control surface in any computer-based music production suite. mLAN EXPLAINED
mLAN is the integration of audio and MIDI bi-directional transfer over a single FireWire (IEEE 1394) cable. Up to 63 mLAN compatible products may be connected together in any order, and as mLAN ports are hot-pluggable, there is no need to power-down or reset any devices. mLAN is extremely useful in computer-based music production, although compatible products may be connected together without a computer - ideal for live performance situations. The format is supported by Windows XP and at OS level for Mac OSX platforms. There are also ASIO and WDM multiclient drivers available for the PC platform. Although mLAN has been developed by Yamaha, over 40 other manufacturers have signed on as licensees, many with products already in the market. mLAN in detail PDF
