Through WavePipe™ Technology, Pro Audio delivers immediate response and performance from any wave compatible card, without requiring specific drivers.

Since proprietary drivers are not required, Pro Audio can offer the widest support for digital and analogue multiple channel I/O cards and even multiple sound cards in one system, providing unlimited options for real time multitrack direct to disk recording.

For the ultimate in performance and control, Pro Audio's support for AudioX allows it to take full advantage of advanced audio interfaces such as the Sonorus StudI/O, Yamaha DSP Factory, and others.

MIDI support makes it easy to capture incoming MIDI data in parallel with digital audio. Through MIDI FX, available only in Cakewalk products, incoming MIDI tracks can even be processed as they are recorded in real time, providing on-the-fly quantization, filtering, and more. Even System Exclusive data can be recorded in any of Pro Audio’s 256 System Exclusive banks.

Track Control
Whether you’re using a Multi-channel professional audio interface or a simple stereo sound card, Pro Audio makes it easy to configure and arm tracks for recording. Individual tracks can be armed from any view, or use a global toolbar to quickly arm multiple tracks for recording. Pro Audio provides advanced options for recording to a stereo track, mono track, or splitting a stereo input into separate left and right tracks as it's recorded.

Real Time Monitoring and Marking
Pro Audio gives you a complete view of the recording process, from real time input level monitoring to CPU and disk metering. You can insert locator markers on the fly from the PC or by MIDI command while recording to quickly locate cue points when editing. For monitoring song position, Pro Audio provides a resizable, customisable display that shows measures/beats/ticks or SMPTE time.

Multiple Takes
Pro Audio provides the tools you need to get the perfect take. Simply set up Pro Audio to loop record multiple takes without interruption, with the option to store each consecutive take in the same track, or to send consecutive takes to different tracks for later auditioning.

Advanced punch-in capabilities allow you to exactly specify record points in a track, with options for recording over existing material in the track, or mixing the new take with the previously recorded.

Total Control
Control recording and playback through a floating transport control, or even control Pro Audio remotely through Cakewalk's Studio Mix controller. Through MIDI support, you can in fact control the transport and track arming from any external device that transmits MIDI messages.

Arranging

Pro Audio's track view is unparalleled in its power and simplicity. Arranging clips and tracks is intuitive and instant, with seamless integration of audio and MIDI recordings. From drag and drop to advanced clip linking, Pro Audio's track view provides all the tools you need to arrange and edit your projects.

  • Stereo Clips
  • Drag and Drop
  • Cut/Copy/Paste

Drag, drop, cut, copy, slide, combine, paste...
Pro Audio automatically arranges recordings into clips that you can easily drag, copy, cut and paste. Designed from the ground up for Windows users, you can easily select multiple clips using standard Windows keyboard conventions or by dragging with the mouse. Once selected, rearrange clips by dragging or instantly create copied clips.

Pro Audio offers the most flexible design for working with stereo audio recordings, allowing you to place stereo clips on any track, and even combine mono and stereo clips within the same track. MIDI, mono, or stereo audio, Pro Audio lets you arrange without compromise.

While the concept of clips and drag/drop is not unique in professional audio workstations, Pro Audio's implementation goes a step beyond. An intuitive interface allows you to split and combine clips, or even select partial regions of clips. You can even link clips for streamlined editing, so that editing operations apply across all linked clips.

Arrange on the fly
Perhaps the most dynamic feature of Pro Audio's arranging and editing is the fact that it can all be done on the fly, in real time, during playback. Drag clips to new positions, copy and paste, mute, solo, and add FX while auditioning live.

Selection and Markers
Pro Audio provides a variety of methods for quickly selecting and auditioning clips and tracks, with support for named markers and loop points. Quickly jump to any marker through drop down a menu, or select a section simply by clicking between two markers.

Snap and Zoom
Pro Audio makes it easy to specify the placement and display of clips, with flexible options for snapping clips automatically to positions, and a set of zoom controls including faders and lasso zooming. You even have control over where to centre the screen while zooming.

Streamlined Arranging
Navigating and arranging in the track view is streamlined through the use of right click menus, customisable hot keys and macros, dockable/floating toolbars, and the ability to sort tracks, name clips, specify colours, specify I/O ports, and add effects without ever switching views. There's even a toolbar for globally muting/soloing or arming/disarming every track.

Audio/MIDI integration
Of course, Pro Audio provides seamless integration of audio and MIDI. While arranging, clips containing audio and/or MIDI can be selected, cut, copied, and pasted together. While editing, all operations apply to both audio or MIDI, such as the ability to quantize, scale velocity, or reverse MIDI events or audio clips. You can even extract timing or the feel from an audio track and apply it to a MIDI clip.

Audio Editing

For detailed editing of audio clips, Pro Audio includes a powerful multitrack audio editor, integrating all audio editing functions in a single view. Simply double click on an audio clip from the track view to open it for editing, or select multiple tracks to view and edit multiple tracks at once.
