Edit Pro: Waveforms scrolling in Multi-Track View in CEP 1.2a
We have
had this report from a few CEP 1.2a users - it only seems to be an issue
on some PC's with the new 1.2a update and it is difficult for us to
pinpoint the specific hardware/software combinations that cause this
to occur. This seems to happen if you are low in resources or your graphic
card can't handle the display while you are playing or recording. Wrong
Cool Edit Pro settings can cause this as well.
Here are
some steps you can try to solve this issue. After each step, check and
see if the problem is gone or not. If it's gone, then you don't need
to continue with the rest of the steps.
- Uninstall
and re-install CEP. Start > Programs > Cool Edit Pro > Uninstall
Cool Edit Pro. Select Full uninstall.
- Install
DirectX 8 from the following web site. Some older version of Direct
X have been known to cause problems with some systems.
http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp
- Install
updated video card driver. These can be aquired through the manufacturer
of your video card or you can take a look on the site below to try
to find compatible drivers.
http://www.windrivers.com/company.htm
- Change
your frame speed to 50. Make sure CEP is closed. Start > Find >
Files or folders. Search for "cool.ini" on your C:\ and
all the sub directories. It may find a few cool.ini files. Dbl-click
on them to open them in note pad. Search for: "framespeed"
and change it's value so it reads: Framespeed=50 Save the file. Do
the same thing for all other cool.ini files.
- Options
> Settings > Multitrack. Change background mix priority level
to 1.
- Options
> settings > Multitrack.
Change Playback Buffer Size (response time) to 1
- Options
> settings > Multitrack.
Change Display Waveforms At 18 Vertical Pixels.
- Set
your video card colors to: High Color 16-bit.
My Computer > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Color
Palette > High Color 16-bit.
- Run
Scan Disk and Disk Defragmenter.
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.
- Options
> Settings > System.
Increase wave cache size based on the following table:
64MB RAM --- 8192 Wave Cache Size
128MB RAM --- 16384 Wave Cache Size
256MB RAM --- 32768 Wave Cache Size
- Options
> Settings > System.
Increase Peaks Cache size to 512.
Now close your session and delete all .pk files that are associated
with your audio files so they can be re-created using larger value.
- While
in the Multi-Track view with your session Open, Select Edit > Refresh
Now This will force a rebuild of your Multi-Track display.
- If
you have problem with a specific waveform, you can right click on
it and select "Full" for CEP to reset display on that waveform.
- If
you have a DMA HD and Motherboard, Turn on the DMA option in Windows
98.
Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Device Manager
> Disk Drives.
Dbl-Click on your Disk Drive in that list. It should say something
like "Generic IDE Disk Type 47". Select Settings and check
DMA option (if not already checked). It will pop up a warning about
problems you may have. If you have Pentium II 300 or faster, you probably
won't have any trouble. You may need to reboot your machine. You should
notice a large improvement in the speed.
- Disable
un-needed startup items.
In Windows 98 or Windows ME go to Start > Programs > Accessories
> System Tools > System Information From the Menu bar, select
Tools > System Configuration Utility.
Click on the Startup Tab.
These are the items that get loaded when you PC starts. Some of these
items may be conflicting with Cool Edit's operations.
Disable some of these items to see if this fixes the problem. You
can re-enable these items later. Un-check all the items except the
following
- ScanRegistry
- SystemTray
(if
you know some items are needed to load the machine or hardware,
leave them in there.) Then click on Apply and then OK. Close These
windows and restart your machine.
If the problem is solved, that means one of the startup items is
causing a conflict with Cool Edit or with windows.
If
you continue to have problems after trying all the above recommendations,
contact Syntrillium Support. If you had success, please let us know
which step fixed the problem as we are eager to learn what works
well for people who have this problem.
