Cool Edit Pro: Using Line In, I can only record the left or the right channel.

Make sure that your Line In (or CD) device is NOT panned all the way to one side.

In Windows:

Dbl-click on the yellow speaker icon located on the lower right hand corner of your screen. Or type "sndvol32" in Start > Run.

Select Option, Properties.

In the "Adjust Volume for" area, select Recording.

This will show you all the devices you can record from, in the "Show the following volume controls:"

Make sure all the devices have a check mark in them.

Click on OK.

At the bottom of each recording device Column, there is a check box with "Select" to the right of it. Use this to select the recording device that you want.
At the top of each recording device column, you can slide the bar to left or to right. This will decide which side you will record. It should be set to middle to record in both channels.
Close "Recording Control" window.
You are ready to record.
