Cool Edit Pro: Can Cool Edit read 20 and 24 bit audio from cards that support those rates?

Yes. Choose the next higher bit size, that is, 32-bits. All 20-bits will be read from the sound card, and the rest just set to zero. Internally it is very inefficient to work with packed 20-bit data, so we just set the extra 4 bits (to make 24) to zero, and set the exponent to zero.
