Cool Edit Pro: Why is Cool Edit greyed out in the Cakewalk tools menu?

Cool Edit can only work with digital audio files such as wave (.wav). If you do not have such file open and selected in CakeWalk, Cool Edit menu stays grayed out. Once you open a Digital Audio file, Cool Edit menu becomes available.

Cool Edit can not open or save as midi (.mid) files. You can use the import function of CakeWalk to open a wave file and test this menu.
